Study Description:
The purpose of this study is to see how effective lip balms are on the pH of skin on the lips or volar forearms when used by women over the course of 1 week.
Study Requirements:
- Must have lips of average or greater than average size.
- Must be willing to not use any lip products (including Chapstick, lip balm, lipstick, pencils, or gloss) except for the provided test material for the duration of the study.
- Must be willing to not use any body moisturizing products and sunscreen on the forearms for the duration of the study.
- Must be willing to continue using regularly used, nonmedicated body cleansing products (cleanser, soap, etc) on the face and forearms for the duration of the study.
- Cannot have moderate to severe dryness on the lips and/or volar forearms.
- Cannot have visible cracks or scales on the lips.
- Cannot have had cold sores on the lips within the past 3 months.
- Cannot have any significant medical conditions that are not controlled by diet or medication. If you are taking more than 5 medications, you may not be able to participate.
- Cannot currently be participating in another study at SGS, another research facility or doctor’s office.
- Cannot have participated on a study involving the lip/mouth area and/or volar forearms at SGS, another research facility or doctor’s office within the past 2
Visit 1 Instructions
- Avoid application of any lip products on the lips and topical moisturizing products on the forearms for at least 1 day prior to visit 1.
- Avoid extended periods of sun exposure and all use of tanning beds and sunless tanning products for the duration of the study. Extra care should be taken to wear protective clothing, sunscreen (avoiding the forearms), and accessories (such as sunglasses, hat, parasol) and avoid sun exposure from 10 AM to 3 PM.
- Continue use of all regular brands of color cosmetics (except lip products), makeup remover, body cleansing products, and sunscreen (avoiding the forearms).
- Refrain from using any lip products on the lips and moisturizing products on the forearms and do not start using any new products on the lips or forearms other than the assigned test material.
- Bring your valid ID or passport.
